Storm Damage - Does My Insurance Cover That?

3/4/2020 (Permalink)

Baled hay in a field with storm clouds in the sky Spring storm season has arrived in North Texas.

Before he purchased SERVPRO of Northwest Fort Worth, our owner, Matthew Hicks, was a Farmers and Allstate Insurance Agent for 10 years. His background in insurance often comes in handy when dealing with insurance claims.

There are several different homeowner's policies available in Texas, some are even grandfathered. While we can't tell you exactly what type of policy you have and what is covered, most homeowner's policies cover the following:

  • Wind, Hail, and Fallen Trees
  • Lightening Strikes and Power Surges
  • Water and Ice Damage- this one can get tricky. Water that enters your home from above such as a leaking roof or window is typically covered. However, rising water or water that comes from the ground up, such as in through doorways or weep holes, is usually considered flood water and NOT covered.

We always recommend sitting down with your insurance agent at least once a year to review your coverages and especially consider your need for flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program. And if you do experience storm damage, know we are available to help 365 days a year at 817-232-3333.
