Fire Damage City of Saginaw, Texas receives new member from the State Farm Arson Dog Program Sheldon, an arson detection dog, is the newest member of the Saginaw, TX fire department.

Meet Sheldon. He is the newest member of the Saginaw Fire Department from the State Farm Arson Dog Program. Sheldon is a 2 year old Goldenlab who has completed a 5 week, 200 hour canine-accelerant detection course. He is the 8th active arson dog in Texas and in his first three weeks already assisted on two jobs. One of the best parts about the State Farm Program, only shelter dogs or dogs dismissed from other service programs are used. Sheldon was in another program but couldn't resist a pork chop and therefore failed.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, an estimated 16,800 fires are intentionally set in U.S. residential buildings every year, resulting in an estimated 280 deaths, 775 injuries and $593 million in property damage.
